I love planning fun ways to spend time with my friends and family over the holiday break. In my friend group, I am usually the one who makes the plans and organizes the hang outs. My friends and I have done many things over the years, and I have compiled a list of the best ways to spend winter break. With these ideas, you too can create lasting memories with your favorite people while school’s out!
1. Ice Skating
There are many places in La Crosse that offer open hours to skate. Going to the rink with friends is a fun way to pass time and create lasting memories. Green Island Park in La Crosse offers open skate times for the public to come and enjoy the ice. My friends and I went here last winter break and had a great time!
2. Watch The Nutcracker Ballet
Seeing the annual Nutcracker Ballet at Viterbo University is a fun way to get in the Christmas mood with good company. My family and I have gone the past few years to support two of my friends participating in the show, and I highly recommend getting tickets. If you or someone you know has never seen this ballet before, this is a great experience to share with them.
3. Make Christmas Cookies
One of my favorite things to do during the holiday season is making Christmas cookies. It is such a fun tradition, and there are so many different recipes to try. So many memories are made when baking with friends and family, as well as enjoying them together after they are baked and decorated.
4. Gingerbread Contest
Hosting a gingerbread house contest is a great way to bring people together with a little friendly competition. These crafts can be purchased at most stores including Walmart, Target, Sam’s Club, and Amazon. Decorating gingerbread houses is a great tradition for anyone, regardless of their artistic abilities.
5. Christmas Movie Marathon
On days where you would rotting on the coach sounds more appealing than participating in a hands-on activity a movie marathon is the perfect option. There are so many holiday movies waiting to be watched, and spending time in blankets and comfy pajamas is the perfect time to eat the Christmas treats you’ve been waiting for.
6. Go To The Rotary Lights
Walking through the Rotary Lights is one of my favorite traditions. Looking at the beautiful lights with loved ones is such an enjoyable end to the day. Food, carriage rides, and free s’mores are offered as you make your way through the paths. Here, you can spend as much or as little time as you want. Great for any occasion!
7. Go Snow Skiing
Whether you know how to snow ski or not, going with friends can be an enjoyable pass time. Learning or teaching a friend to ski will create so many memories to look back on. Mt. La Crosse opens Thursday, December 5! Many people enjoy spending the day there with their friends and family.
8. Secret Santa
One of my favorite things to do with my friend group is a secret santa. By drawing names or going to this website, everyone is assigned their person and finds a gift. Gift giving is one of my favorite things to do, and finding out who is your secret santa is so much fun.
