Music today is not the same as it was decades ago. It has changed in many ways, and it is important to look back on these time periods of pop music. The playlist attached is one I have created. It does not have the typical tunes of today, but tunes from years ago. The purpose of listening to this playlist is to broaden your spectrum of music. While the hits of today are good in their own way, I find it refreshing to listen to the old hits and see how music has changed. When listening, make sure to not prejudge any of the songs based on their intro or title. Be aware that there are various songs on here from many time periods. Some may be recognizable, and some may be new to you.
There are different ways to listen to something, for different purposes. Some pieces are for enjoyment, and some for the information. It’s important to reflect on these methods, especially when listening to “You Don’t Own Me” by Lesley Gore. Out of all the songs on the playlist, this song has the most notable/meaningful lyrics. This song should be listened to for comprehension, but the rest can be listened to for appreciation.
Sometimes, we forget that hearing music is not the same as listening to the music. Hearing is simply capturing sound from your ears, but listening is receiving and interpreting messages. It can be easy to get into the habit of just hearing something, and within that, glazing over during the message. During these songs, I recommend fully paying attention. I hope this 44 minute mashup can bring you a fun vibe to your day, and possibly an addition to your own personal playlist.
