It’s nearing the end of the year and seniors are already committing to their dream colleges, some of which managed to earn offers from these colleges by participating in sports. Sports allowed for these students to be accepted into these colleges in order to continue their academic careers and also play the sports they love. Marina Thompson is one of many seniors who is headed to college, while also being in soccer. “I am super excited to continue my academic and soccer career at Georgia Southwestern State University,” says Thompson, “Although far away from home, I am looking forward to the new experiences that moving to Georgia will provide.”

Sports is a great way to gain recognition from colleges and universities. Typically, colleges look for athletes who have both athletic ability and good grades. Ella Jordan ‘22 being successful in both her academic studies and basketball, decided UW-Whitewater is the best fit for her for both. “UW-Whitewater initially stood out to me because of their strength in both academics and athletics,” says Jordan, “I intend on majoring in business, and their business program is one of the best in the country. As for basketball, the women’s program just secured their 6th WIAC Conference Title, and enter playoffs nationally ranked for D3 hoops. When visiting with the coaching staff, I was reminded of my own coaches and basketball team here at West Salem. I’m super excited to join such a successful school and basketball program, and I can’t wait to see what the future holds!”

Rachel Stein is headed to UW Eau Claire thanks to the work she put in for swim. Immediately, she expressed great interest in going to UW Eau Claire. “I am super excited to go to UW Eau Claire because I immediately clicked with the swim team and I fell in love with the campus,” says Stein, “I think it will be a great fit for me, and I am very excited to see what lies ahead in my future.”

All in all, these seniors look forward to continuing their sports career thanks to the colleges that reached out to them. They will also have a great place to work on their schoolwork and meet plenty of new people to socialize with. We wish the best of luck to these seniors and their future endeavors.
