As the year winds down at West Salem High School, students are already counting down the days until summer break officially begins. With warm weather, free time, and endless opportunities ahead, many students are excited to relax and enjoy their favorite summer activities before returning to school next fall.
A recent survey of students in seventh and eighth hours commons showed that the most popular thing that students are looking forward to this summer is simply spending time with friends. Around 20 students said hanging out with friends is what they are most excited for, whether that means bonfires, shopping trips, late-night drives, or overall just making new memories together.
Another highly popular answer was sleeping in, and catching up on rest, with 17 students saying they cannot wait to sleep without alarms and enjoy stress-free mornings after a busy school year.
12 students shared that they are looking forward to tubing and boating throughout the summer months. With Wisconsin lakes and warm weather, students are eager to spend time outside enjoying the sunshine.
6 students said they are excited to go on vacations with family or friends, giving them a chance to explore new places and take a break from everyday routines, while 4 other students said they are simply excited to leave school behind for a few months and enjoy a much needed break from homework, tests, and early mornings.
Sophomore Elly Christianson said that “I’m excited to go swimming and paddle boarding on the lake this summer.”
Sports continue through the summer for many athletes at West Salem High School as well. 6 girls said they are especially excited for summer volleyball activities, while 9 boys shared that they are looking forward to spending time on the golf course this summer.
Freshman Canon Boland who is a part of the West Salem Golf team, said that “I’m excited to golf with my friends, get ice cream, and overall make new memories with the boys this summer.”
Other students mentioned enjoying summer traditions like tanning, relaxing outside, attending events, working summer jobs, and spending more time with family.
Overall, students at West Salem High School have a lot to look forward to this summer. From sports and vacations to late nights with friends and relaxing days by the water, summer offers many opportunities for fun and unforgettable memories. After a long school year filled with hard work and busy schedules, students are excited to enjoy their break and make the most of the warm months ahead before school starts next fall.
