On Thursday, January 4th the boys hockey team took on the Altoona Rams in a non conference matchup. The boys had played the Rams earlier in the season taking a 5-9 defeat.
Starting the game off the boys stayed with Altoona getting some quick shots on net and keeping the puck in the Ram’s zone. Junior Tyler Meyer from Bangor drew an early penalty from Ram’s player Elijah Martin for interference, putting West Salem on the power play. Not being able to capitalize on the power play. The Panther’s kept the score 0-0 going into the first intermission.
Going into the second period, the boys gave up two goals, giving the Rams a 2-0 lead. But the Panthers weren’t going to give up that easily, with Meyer getting a goal off of an assist by sophomore Aiden Hilyer.
They did not stop there, going into the third period junior Jacob Brown got an unassisted goal, tying the game up and sending it into overtime. With only 11.9 seconds left in the second overtime, Altoona was able to get past the defenders and put the puck in the net. The final being 3-2. The Panthers are 1-11 on the season.
