Overview
Considering the infield dirt, the grass, the warning track, all the way to the atmosphere, there are many parts of a ball field that make them better, or worse, than the others. Here are the top 3 baseball fields in the Coulee Conference, from Wisconsin.
#3- Westby’s Ball Field
Westby’s field is widespread, with a large red colored windscreen covering the back field fence. A large scoreboard adorns center field. The field has a very large outfield with a warning track bordering it. The one downfall however is their infield. It is only dirt and the mound is below average height. They have a few sets bleachers but not a ton for fans. Even with this, they still have one of the better fields in the area.
#2- Viroqua Park Bowl
Viroqua Park Bowl is one of the best fields to play on. It has one of the best seating arrangements in the Coulee. This is due to the giant concrete stands behind the 3rd base dugout. They also have plenty of bleachers if people prefer a closer view. Their dugouts are underground and have lots of space. This is also nice for the players cause of the cool shade that comes with it. Their dirt infield is not the best however. It is very rough and it is difficult to determine which direction the ball will bounce when fielding. The outfield grass is clean but it is not very level in some areas. As a whole, Viroqua Park Bowl is a very nice field and has lots of its own personalized signature additions which other fields lack.
#1- Miller Field in West Salem
West Salem is known for having one of, if not the nicest, field in the state of Wisconsin. The outfield is one of the deepest in the state, reaching around 410 in center field. The outfield grass is smooth and is maintained regularly. A large warning track lines the field which helps players know when they are about to run into the wall. They have a grass infield with a sharp looking infield lip. Outside of the field is a large arrange of orange bleachers. The dugouts are underground and have tons of room for players and gear. They also have fans in the dugouts for summer ball when the heat comes with a vengeance. West Salem has the best concessions stand in the whole area which is perfect for the families and fans. Their newly renovated indoor baseball facility has been a success. In the 2024 Legion season, they were the hosts for the State Tournament which is a big honor. Teams were able to warmup and take cuts in the facility. West Salem keeps on adding additions to the field and the facility. This benefits the community and team greatly. West Salem is truly a die-hard baseball community.
