The West Salem Girls Swim Team is a co-op made up of three schools: Central, Logan, and West Salem. Joan Kapellas is the head coach, and their assistant coach is West Salem graduate Tegan Hewitt. Lilly Ackerman, Lydia Kromke, and Shefali Ramakrishnan are the team captains.
The team was proudly undefeated for the majority of the season. Freshman Alicia Zarecki says everyone plays a part in keeping the team’s performance up. “We have a good coach and swimmers that help each other improve and hype each other up,” says Zarecki.
Community has played a big role in the team’s successes this season. “My favorite part about the team is how supportive everyone is, they are always encouraging you to be the best swimmer you can be,” says Sophomore Natalie Wright.
“I’m hoping that our relays will make it to state,” said Zarecki prior to competing at sectionals. Sectionals were held on Saturday, November 4th where West Salem swimmers Alicia Zarecki qualified for state in the 200 Medley relay and Lauren Zarecki in the 400 Free Relay. They will be swimming in Waukesha this coming Saturday, November 11th.
