Jenny Stenberg, a high school science teacher, is trying to make a difference in the community, to help those in need.
If a family is in need of some extra help they can fill out a google form. You have until December 13th to grab a tag off the tree located in the commons. The tags include a dollar amount and a store, for example a tag might say 50 dollar Walmart gift card.
You bring the cash for the gift card to Mrs. Stenberg. The card or cash is then given to student services where they get all the gift cards together. Once all the donations are in, student services will go and distribute the gift cards to the families in need.
Stenberg says, “You don’t know the battles someone else is struggling with.” That is the reason the NHS are pushing so hard to reach their goal.
Student services have been a big help in the giving tree. Also the NHS, an organization that builds leadership, character, and service. They do a lot of volunteering around the community. They have also been big part in the giving tree process.
One of the NHS members in particularly has been a big help. Her name is Senior Emma Haun. Haun said, “I think it important to give back to the others who don’t have as much as I do because I feel very fortunate for what I have.”
Stenberg says a lot of the businesses will take tags and buy them. That really shows how much West Salem is connected to the community.
