The Math Club took 3rd place out of 12 at their first contest on Wednesday, November 5th, at UW Platteville. Sophomore Aidric Schmitz tied for 4th place out of 80 competitors in his age group. Senior Elliot Wolf tied for 2nd place among 80 in his age group.
According to math teacher and math club advisor Mr. Milne and math club member Elliot Wolf, the math team gives an opportunity to students to get more math practice. The math team goes to 1-3 competitions a year. In those competitions the separate grade levels take different tests. The seniors’ tests are harder than any other test.
Wolf says that the math club was a good opportunity to hang out with friends. He also said that the competitions were an hour long and that there were individual competitions and team competitions.
Junior Henri Schlecht says a student that likes math and challenges should join the Math Club.
According to Mr. Milne, the next competitions should be Saturday, February 14th, at UW-Eau Claire.
