Ever Since January 1st hit, the girls co-op hockey team, the Cyclones, have moved from practicing at the Onalaska Omni Center to the West Salem Panther Den. The team moved because it’s only fair to move closer to West Salem students for the last couple months of the season since Onalaska had the rink close to them at the start of the hockey. Mark Thorn, the coach of the Cyclones, made the decision for this change. This is the first year testing out the move because he thought it would be nice for West Salem. Some could be happy with this change, but mostly everyone isn’t too thrilled. “I have mixed emotions about it. I like it because I’m closer to the rink from my house but there’s things I don’t like. The locker room was a lot better at the Omni Center and practices felt put together,” said Sophomore Sophie Belling from West Salem. The locker room is a bit smaller and doesn’t have a bathroom attached like it did at the Omni Center. As far as practice times go, they’ve been around the same time ranging from 3:45pm to 4:30pm. For an update about how the team is doing with playing games, as of January 16th, 2023, they still haven’t won a game. “I’m sad that we still haven’t won a game yet but I think that we will win our game tonight. We play Stoughton and I’ve heard that they aren’t very good so I’m excited that we have a chance. This will be one of my first games back due to my surgery I had back in November, ” said Junior Diana Hanson from Holmen High School.
