Ski areas within 3 hours of La Crosse, Wisconsin.

Intro

I have put together a list of some of the best ski hills within around a 3 hour drive from West Salem. I also included how many runs each hill has and what they have to offer as well as prices for a lift ticket.

 

Mt. LaCrosse Ski Area

Opening in 1959, Mt. LaCrosse has been a destination for skiing in Wisconsin. The hill is a just a couple of minutes outside of the city of La Crosse. It has 18 runs including a terrain park, and the steepest run in the state called Damnation. The Runs are serviced by three two-person chairlifts. The historic A-frame chalet is a great place to hang out and warm up. Weekday lift tickets cost $69 for adults, $64 for juniors, and kids 5 and under ski free. On the weekends adult lift tickets cost $72, and juniors ski for $67, and kids 5 under still ski for free.

Devils Head Resort.

Located just outside of Baraboo Wisconsin, Devil’s Head Ski Resort has been named top 10 best ski areas in the midwest by various ski resorts. The resort has a total of 260 skiable acres with 500 feet of vertical drop. It’s 30 runs are serviced by five four-person lifts, one three-person lift, and one two-person lifts. Weekday lift tickets cost $82 for adults,  and $72 for juniors. On the weekends adult lift tickets cost $92, and juniors ski for $82.

 

Cascade Mountain Ski And Snowboard

Just 20 minutes Northeast of Devils Head resort you will find Cascade Mountain. Cascade is another great Wisconsin ski resort with 48 runs and 10 lifts. Cascade has 175 skiable acres and 450 feet of vertical drop. The resort also has 4 different terrain parks. Weekday lift tickets cost $79 for adults,  and $65 for juniors. On the weekends adult lift tickets cost $95, and juniors ski for $84.

 

Tyrol Basin

Located in the town of Vermont Wisconsin, tyrol basin is another average sized midwest ski resort with 22 runs, and 300 feet of vertical drop. Tyrol Basin also has 4 different terrain parks, and is know to have well put together parks. Another cool thing about Tyrol is that is it 100% covered by snowmaking systems, and the entire hill is lighted. for night skiing. Weekday lift tickets cost $50 for adults,  and $40 for juniors. On the weekends adult lift tickets cost $60, and juniors ski for $50.

Coffee Mill Ski Area

In the town of Wabasha Minnesota you can find Coffee Mill ski area. It is one of the smallest hills on the list offering 28 skiable acres over 10 runs that are serviced by 3 chairlifts. Weekday lift tickets cost $45 for adults,  and $35 for juniors. On the weekends adult lift tickets cost $55, and juniors ski for $45.

 

Welch Village Ski & Snowboard Area

Just a few minutes north of Red Wing Minnesota lies Welch Village Ski area. Welch is one of the biggest hill on the list with 60 runs that are serviced by 9 chairlifts. There’s a total of 140 skiable acres over a 360 foot vertical drop. The resort covers both sides of the mountain as well with some harder runs on the back side. Weekday lift tickets cost $70 for adults,  and $60 for juniors. On the weekends adult lift tickets cost $80, and juniors ski for $70.

Nordic Mountain

Nordic mountain is another smaller resort located in Wisconsin with only 60 skiable acres and a 265 foot vertical drop. The 18 hills are serviced by 2 chairlifts. Lift tickets cost $80 for adults,  and $70 for juniors.

Christmas Mountain Ski Area

Christmas mountain is a great mountain for beginners. It has lots of beginner and intermediate terrain as well as a terrain park. The hill has 40 skiable acres, and 250 feet of vertical drop. The 16 runs are serviced by 1 chairlift. Lift tickets cost $80 for adults,  and $65 for juniors.

Granite Peak Ski Area

One of the best and most popular ski hills in Wisconsin is Granite Peak Ski area. The hill offers 60 runs with 700 feet of vertical drop. The runs are serviced by 5 chairlifts. Granite Peak is also know for their terrain parks. Their parks are very well put together with nice features ranging from beginner to expert level. Regular lift tickets cost $109 for adults,  and $89 for juniors. On the holidays adult lift tickets cost $119, and juniors ski for $99.

Afton Alps Ski & Snowboard

The last ski resort on the list is Afton Alps Ski & Snowboard area. It is a pretty good size resort with 37 runs and 18 chairlifts! The hill offers 250 acres of skiable terrain over 350 feet of vertical drop. The hill also offers 4 terrain parks. Lift tickets cost $70 for adults,  and $65 for juniors.
