The prom season is upon us, and high schoolers are scrambling to achieve the perfect nails, hair, dress, and tan. As the big dance approaches West Salem High School, those planning to attend rush to get things just right. Girls around this time, invest in self-tan or try going to a salon to chase that sunkissed feel for prom. Tanning is seemingly a big step in the prom process this year. Sophomore, Josie Brudos says, “I like tanning because it makes me feel like it’s summer again. I just worry that it will turn orange.” 

Getting makeup and hair done on prom day seems to eat up more money than normal. Salons nearby have booked out, and new hairstyles have approached the prom world. Up-dos and half-ups or curls have proven to be popular for other local schools. It is possible that we will see long hair especially because of this year’s theme “Tangled.” First-year Spanish teacher and Prom assistant manager Maggie Maxwell says, “Our theme was very fun this year, and it was exciting to see all of the decorations.”

Finding the perfect dress is the most important and stressful part of prom planning. There doesn’t seem to be a certain type of dress that will stand out. People are going with the flow this year, and you may see many different styles and colors. “I don’t love the dress I picked because I wish I chose one with more color,” says Izzie Clements ‘25. Many prom people focus on the idea of buying a dress because of how much it means to people, so we should expect to see some glamorous looks. Looking and feeling good at prom is important to many people.
